Maleforce users can take the chatting experience even further with our Direct Connect Numbers. A Direct Connect Number is an 'anonymous' telephone number (similar to a mobile number) that forwards calls to a real mobile or landline phone. Maleforce users or even friends can call each other on their Direct Connect Number from anywhere in the world without revealing their real landline or mobile number. For more information on Direct Connect Numbers see Direct Connect Number FAQs
With all this chatting and making friends it is possible that you may want to take a phone chat “relationship” further. If this is how you feel you should follow some basic safe dating rules to ensure that you keep your on line dating/chatting experience happy and safe. Some of the tips may seem very obvious but do still try to follow as many of them as possible:
The most important thing you must remember is to always keep your personal details safe.
• Do not reveal your full name, telephone number, real email address, URL, work or home address in your shout message OR to a complete stranger over the phone.
• Take your time to know your new “friends”. Use your common sense and do not make snap decisions. There is no need for you to rush in to anything!
• Don't take everything at face value " as everywhere there are always people out there who lie and misrepresent themselves.
• Ask as many questions as possible to help you get to know your “friends” better. Sometimes people may seem too good to be true and they probably are " do not let them get away with being vague or refuse to answer basic questions.
• Do not get involved in conversations that make you uncomfortable. Make sure that you feel comfortable and safe at all times whoever you are chatting to.
• If someone is abusive to you on the chatline or your Direct Connect Number block them straight away and report them to us via the site ‘contact us’ link.
• If someone is pushing to meet don’t be in a rush to get out the door! Try calling the person first for a while and see how this goes. This will give you time to judge if the user is genuine or hiding something " calls in the middle of the night for example instead of during the day are a good example of someone that may not be all “sugar and spice”.
Use a Direct Connect Number instead of your real phone number. The good thing about Direct Connect Numbers is that they are extremely safe because the people who call you will never know your real phone number. You can also choose to divert all incoming calls to voicemail instead and pick up your messages anytime you want. This will help you sort the “good” from the “bad” users and will give you time to decide who you want to talk to. If someone leaves their real phone number in a message and urges you to call them do not do it, however if you do decide to do it you should make sure you block your ID so that your personal phone number does not display when you make the call. Alternatively you can call from a payphone or get the user to register his own Direct Connect Number where you can call him or leave messages.
A Direct Connect Number is the safest way to chat so if someone wants to call you they can always call you on your Direct Connect number and so can you. Still be careful and look for signs that suggest that not all is good with this user such as: always hangs up unexpectedly, does not accept calls during the day, gets annoyed when you call even if the call was pre-arranged, always asks you to call at a specific time etc. These are all bad signs and you may be wasting your time.
Dating and meeting up
If you have decided that it is time to meet your phone “friend” make sure you follow these safety tips:
• If you feel you have been pushed into meeting someone do not do it! You don’t owe a date to anybody no matter what they may say. Use your common sense and say No if that’s how you feel.
• Always meet in a public place or go with a friend. If the person is genuine he will not mind and will probably want to do the same.
• Use your Direct Connect Number to chat to the person first before you arrange to meet. This will help you get to know each other better.
• Always tell your friends where you are going and who you are going with.
• Always carry a mobile phone with you and try to call your friends as many times as possible to let them know you are ok.
• Do not meet in a place that is not familiar to you, you would feel uncomfortable there or it is inconvenient/hard to get to. Your safety is your priority " make sure you can easily get to and out of the place your meeting is at.
• Best time for a date is lunch time or during the day for coffee " keep it short and sweet and if it does not turn out to be as good as you expected at least you can easily excuse yourself and leave.
• Try to put a time-limit on your date. Arrange with friends to pick you up or meet up close to the meeting place.
• Do not accept an offer for a lift from your date. It is safer to go home on your own or meet up with friends.
• Always have someone ready to come and get you if things turn for the worse and do not be afraid to attract the attention of people around you if this happens.
